The American Eskimo Dog descends from white German Spitz dogs brought to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Initially known simply as “American Spitz,” the breed gained popularity through its use in traveling circuses and urban households. The Miniature variety was developed by selectively breeding smaller individuals while maintaining the breed’s intelligence and athleticism.
