The Stabyhoun, often called the Stabij or Frisian Pointing Dog, is a beloved breed with a rich history.
The Stabyhoun (Stabij) is a rare Dutch breed from the Friesland province of the Netherlands. The breed has existed since at least the early 1800s, developed as an all-purpose farm dog for the Frisian people. 'Stabyhoun' roughly translates to 'stand by me dog,' reflecting its devoted nature. The breed served as a pointer, retriever, watchdog, mole catcher, and draft animal. With fewer than 7,000 individuals worldwide, the Stabyhoun is one of the rarest breeds in the world.
