The Portuguese Pointer, often called the Perdigueiro Português, is a beloved breed with a rich history.
The Portuguese Pointer (Perdigueiro Português) is one of the oldest pointing breeds in the world, with records dating to the 12th century in Portugal. The breed was developed for partridge hunting in the varied terrain of the Iberian Peninsula. Portuguese Pointers are believed to be one of the foundation breeds that contributed to the development of the English Pointer. The breed nearly went extinct in the early 20th century and was revived through careful breeding. It remains relatively rare outside Portugal.
