Breed history

Labrador Retrievers originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and fish from icy waters. The yellow color, including the Red Fox shade, appeared naturally early in the breed’s development but was once considered undesirable compared to black Labs. Over time, breeders rediscovered and preserved the deeper red pigmentation, particularly in working and field lines. Today, the Red Fox Labrador is celebrated for combining classic Labrador temperament with a rare and eye-catching appearance.
