The Corgi, often called the Pembroke or Corg, is a beloved breed with a rich history.
The Welsh Corgi comes in two breeds—the Pembroke and the Cardigan. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales, likely brought by Flemish weavers in 1107. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi has even older roots in Wales, brought by Celtic tribes around 1200 BC. Both were developed as cattle herding dogs, using their low stature to nip at cattle heels while avoiding kicks. The Pembroke gained worldwide fame as the preferred breed of Queen Elizabeth II, who owned more than 30 Corgis during her reign.
