What is the most responsible way to bring home a pup? Paction doesn’t deny that the breeder versus rescue debate among the pup community is a highly polarized one! Contrary to any of the more extreme stances out there, Paction believes that both good breeders and good rescues play important and complementary roles when it comes to making responsible decisions about being a pup owner. In fact, Paction views these issues as intertwined in the sense that choosing only the most reputable pup providers is a powerful mechanism to prevent irresponsible breeding and overpopulation.

Rescuing is admirable, but not always the right choice for everyone. The fact is that today, more pup parents choose to obtain a pup from a breeder than from a rescue or shelter. If breeders aren’t going away, how do potential pup parents navigate through the lack of information on breeders and the puppy scammers online? Paction is working to create a more accountable and transparent experience. When only the most responsible breeding is rewarded, it is much less likely that irresponsible breeding activities will persist.

While rescues have lengthy application processes and very high standards for adoption, pups sold online can be picked up within hours and with few questions asked. Leveling the playing field between adoption and obtaining a pup from a breeder is a powerful mechanism for promoting both options, and not solely promoting the path of least resistance. In other words, potential pup parents can feel confident using Paction.

Taking initiative to ensure responsible pet ownership is the first step to safeguarding the wellbeing and the future of pups across Canada.
